Section 05 • What Local Owners Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions for Scott County Businesses & Landowners

1. Does it cost anything to list my farm, store, restaurant, or hotel?

Never. Listing in the Georgetown/Scott County Film Office Directory is 100% free of charge, and the Film Office charges $0 commission if a production selects your property or hires your business. Our mission is to maximize film spending across the entire county.

2. How do producers choose between properties in the directory?

Under our 3-Property Competitive Lookbook Standard, every incoming script inquiry receives a lookbook containing at least three comparable Scott County properties—and the visiting film’s Director and Producer always make the final selection.

3. What if a film crew damages something or interrupts my business?

Before any production steps onto your property, they must issue a $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 Commercial General Liability Certificate of Insurance naming you as Additional Insured, plus a refundable security deposit. If you run a retail store or restaurant, productions pay a negotiated business buyout fee that exceeds your normal daily revenue.

4. Am I obligated to say "yes" if a movie asks to film at my property?

No. You retain 100% control over your property. When a location scout expresses interest, the Film Office contacts you with the dates, crew size, and proposed budget. You can approve, negotiate higher terms, restrict off-limits areas, or decline for any reason.
